@Erin_Finnegan Would you be able to look into this?
Hi Bryce,
@indranil did ask the team about this - I don’t think there will be a fix by MAX, based on the response. It is tracked internally as ID-4274250… moved to ID-4288241.
@Erin_Finnegan okay, thanks for the update.
An update: the fix shall be a part of InDesign MAX release.
Hi Indranil,
thank you for the update. We are currently facing exactly this issue with an InDesign UXP plugin submitted to Adobe Marketplace.
Our plugin, Diego Tools (Plugin ID: 0078ee6a), has been rejected by the Adobe Marketplace Review Team because InDesign displays the default/dummy icon in the Plugins panel instead of our custom icon.
We followed the Manifest v5 documentation and the icon naming/size requirements provided by the Review Team, but the default icon is still displayed. We also reproduced the same behavior with a completely minimal test plugin, so it does not appear to be specific to Diego Tools.
The Review Team referred us to this community for technical assistance. Since you confirmed that a fix is planned for the InDesign MAX release, could you please advise how developers should handle Marketplace submissions that are currently being rejected because of this known InDesign issue?
Is there a workaround available, or can the Marketplace Review Team be informed that this is a known InDesign bug so that it does not block the plugin approval?
Thank you very much for your help.
Hi @diego82mi,
Thanks for the details. I re-verified the plugin on our side, and the dummy icon in this submission isn’t the InDesign bug. The issue is with the plugin itself. The manifest has no icons declared, and the package has no icons folder, so InDesign has nothing to load and shows the default icon. Please fix the following and resubmit.
1. Add icons to the manifest and the package
Create an icons folder in the plugin root and add these files:
plugin-dark.pngandplugin-light.png(24x24), plus@2xversions (48x48)panel-dark.pngandpanel-light.png(23x23), plus@2xversions (46x46)
Then update manifest.json. Add this block inside the panel entrypoint:
"icons": [
{
"width": 23,
"height": 23,
"path": "icons/panel-dark.png",
"scale": [1, 2],
"theme": ["darkest", "dark"],
"species": ["generic"]
},
{
"width": 23,
"height": 23,
"path": "icons/panel-light.png",
"scale": [1, 2],
"theme": ["lightest", "light", "medium"],
"species": ["generic"]
}
]
And add this one at the top level, next to entrypoints:
"icons": [
{
"width": 24,
"height": 24,
"path": "icons/plugin-dark.png",
"scale": [1, 2],
"theme": ["darkest", "dark"],
"species": ["pluginList"]
},
{
"width": 24,
"height": 24,
"path": "icons/plugin-light.png",
"scale": [1, 2],
"theme": ["lightest", "light", "medium"],
"species": ["pluginList"]
}
]
2. Publisher profile icon
InDesign logo is used inside the publisher profile icon you have uploaded, kindly remove the InDesign icon from there and upload a new publisher profile icon.
3. UI language
The plugin opens in Italian even when InDesign is set to English. Please make English the default. You can keep Italian as a localized option based on the app locale.
Collapsed panel icon
You’re right, that one can’t show when the panel is collapsed. It’s a system limitation and not a reason for rejection.
Before you resubmit
Rebuild the .ccx, unzip it, and check that the icons folder is inside and the file names match the manifest paths exactly.
So if I understand correctly since Nov 2023 (3 years, wow) we don’t have custom collapsed icons in UXP? It’s working correctly for CEP and has for a long long time.
Doesn’t work on InDesign 2026 (neither normal nor Debug version).
But it works in InDesign Beta for me, yay!
