Can a plugin detect whether Effect Controls is enabled the Source or the clip tab?

Hi all,

Is there any way for a UXP plugin to tell whether Effect Controls is currently showing (enable) the Source tab (master clip effects) or the Sequence tab (the clip on the timeline)?

What I’ve confirmed works: the source’s effects can be read and written through the project item’s component chain.

const cpi = ppro.ClipProjectItem.cast(await trackItem.getProjectItem());
const chain = await cpi.getComponentChain(ppro.Constants.MediaType.VIDEO);
// chain.getComponentCount() -> 2 (Transform, Lumetri Color already on the source)
// append an effect inside executeTransaction:
compound.addAction(chain.createAppendComponentAction(comp));
// executeTransaction returned true, the count went from 2 to 3,
// and the trackItem's own chain was unchanged.

So the source chain is reachable. What I can’t find is anything that says which Effect Controls tab is active. I listed everything exported by require(“premierepro”) and every member of Project, Sequence, TrackItemSelection, TrackItem, SourceMonitor and ProjectUtils, filtering for names like effect control, tab, focus, panel, view and workspace. The only relevant export is SourceMonitor, which is the Source Monitor panel, not the Effect Controls tab. TrackItem.getIsSelected only reports timeline selection. Reading the source chain returns the same result whichever tab is open, so it doesn’t help either.

Questions:

  1. Is there any API, property or event that reports whether Effect Controls is showing the Source enable in effects control?
  2. Failing that, is there a way to know which panel (Timeline, Project, Source Monitor, Effect Controls) last had focus?
  3. If neither exists, could this be taken as a feature request? Without it, a plugin can’t match what the user sees in Effect Controls and has to ask the user separately where an effect should go.

Environment: Premiere Pro 26.5.2 Build 5, Windows 11, UXP manifest v5, minVersion 25.6.0.

Thanks!
