Is it possible to define a dataset variable using a script?

I need to use a script to create layers with names from a list and define dataset variables with the same names for them.
This definitely can’t be done with JavaScript, but maybe UXP can?

What you mean by “can’t be done with JavaScript” ? UXP is pure Javascript though,
