Plans to support captions?

Hi,

I’m experimenting with UXP in Premiere Pro, and I was wondering if there were any plans to support extracting and manipulating captions. I can think of a dozen ways that I’d love to automate some of my Captions workflows, and UXP seems like the best way to do that.

Currently I’m only able to get a Caption Track, and extract all of the TrackItems from that caption track, however I can’t do anything with it. I can’t see what the caption contains (the raw text), etc.

Is this a feature that’s planned in the future? Or not at all? Should I invest time in preparing development for this feature or will it never arrive?

Or have I just not figured out how to do it?

Example use case would be to extract all captions from a caption track, send to Deepl / ChatGPT for translation, and import a translated caption track for example.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Mark

Yes, we do plan to eventually support Caption manipulation.

First priority = make sure what was already possible via CEP+ExtendScript, remains possible using UXP. API feature requests will come after that.

Is that a certainty?

From what I could read on various forums, people have asking about captions support for CEP since 2021…

It is certain that no further changes will be made to PPro’s ExtendScript APIs, and it’s certain that any expansion of available APIs will need to wait until the replacement of ExtendScript APIs is complete.
