We have recently been getting some users reporting that they are unable to use some of our CEP solutions for InDesign / InCopy due to policy restrictions for their internet connections. Specifically errors which state "Not allowed to use the browser: Google Chrome (88.x)
Since InDesign up to CC2025 uses CEP 11.x, which is built on top of Chromium v88.x, are there any plans to update to CEP 12.x which is based on Chromium v99.x
I found this after a quick google search which is why some it departments are putting these policies in place.
"
Google Chrome version 88.x, released in early 2021, contained several security vulnerabilities, including a critical zero-day flaw actively exploited by attackers. This particular vulnerability, identified as CVE-2021-21148, was a heap buffer overflow in Chrome’s V8 JavaScript engine. Exploiting this flaw could allow attackers to execute arbitrary code on a user’s system.
Due to the severity of this and other vulnerabilities, organizations and users were strongly advised to update to the latest version of Chrome to mitigate potential security risks. Consequently, some entities implemented policies restricting the use of Chrome 88.x to protect their systems and data.
"
I presume Adobe would take security vulnerabilities seriously and I would be interested to hear their take on this.
