I have seen a pattern for over a year (possibly back to the start of UXP) where users fail to install a CCX file locally because the operating system associates the CCX extension with Photoshop instead of UPIA. For a long time, I thought this may be users dragging and dropping into PS or changing the file association. But the frequency is too high and when I ask clearly knowledgeable users, they say they did not change the association. So I now believe it may be the case that some Adobe code is changing the CCX association away from UPIA.
I’m curious if other developers have seen any pattern triggering this scenario? Are any of you seeing this with apps supporting UXP other than Photoshop?
I believe that is worth investigating, but I don’t have any idea how to reproduce the issue or when it occurs. I presume during some CCD update, but that’s a pure guess. Several users have also stated that running the Adobe “repair” option (in the uninstaller) does not appear to correct the file association.
In addition to fixing the underlying trigger or enhancing “repair” so that it fixes the file association, I believe Photoshop could be updated to help more clearly. When a CCX is opened with PS, it shows “could not import the clipboard because Photoshop does not recgonize this type of file.” It would help if PS could instead say something more like “CCX files must be opened with UPIA, please open the Adobe uninstaller and choose the ‘repair’ option.” (obviously the wording could be much better, just directionality the idea). Or even better, have PS just send an instruction for UPIA to open it or fix the file association.
